One 14-year-old boy was found dead just days after being wrongly accused of stealing the ashes of a deceased infant during a break-in, an inquest has learned.
The young boy's parents found his remains in his bedroom at his Flintshire home on 19 November 2021.
The inquest heard how his mother got a communication on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a woman inquiring if Kai was her offspring. The message added: "Inform him thanks for burgling my flat."
In a statement presented to the proceedings, the mother said the individual had been in the news, asserting her baby's remains had been taken in a break-in - a allegation which was untrue.
An investigation report from authorities later determined the supposed break-in victim had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that said property was not taken in the first place".
Media reports about the alleged stolen ashes attracted social media comments, and although the teenager was not named in the messages, his parent said people "understood it was him".
The "social media content were extremely distressing", she stated.
She added that her son had been identified with moderate ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' views really were important to him.
"This must have affected him severely," she said, "particularly when this was untrue".
The teenager was detained at home, but no evidence was discovered. He was taken to a police station and later released under investigation.
Police said they would be in touch, the hearing heard, but had failed to reached out to the family by the time of his passing.
His parent said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could seem like much longer".
When she spoke to him about the supposed incident, she said her child informed her he had entered the residence because the resident who lived there had said he could utilize the bathroom whenever he needed, but denied removing anything.
In a combined testimony between her and her husband, the mother said her son was being harassed digitally after the accusations.
The inquest heard that one young adult encouraged Kai to end his life.
She had no concerns on the night before he passed away, describing how she had heard him "chuckling and joking".
She portrayed him as a "compassionate, affectionate" boy, and said her "family is totally shattered".
He had been "clearly hiding his concerns", she said, adding that he could not stand to have anybody "think bad of him".
The inquest heard from educational staff at the local High School.
On 8 November, she "overheard some boys talking that the student had been arrested and that was the initial I heard".
"He told me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.
After the conversation, the staff member said she rang Kai's parents' telephone and left a message saying she had spoken to Kai about the accusations.
The court learned his parents said they did not receive that communication.
Lead coroner informed the inquest he would wait for reports regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with suspects with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of future deaths report.
Delivering a narrative conclusion, he stated: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsupported accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old individual.
"Probably falsehoods were subsequently embellished and exaggerated through the platform of social media.
"During November 11th, he was questioned by the authorities and following his interview he was freed while investigations proceeded."
The coroner determined: "There is no proof that the acts or omissions of any agency led to or added to his passing and although it was the result of a self-inflicted action it is impossible to determine his purpose."
