One ranking policeman who rushed to the assistance of a colleague that got attacked by a knifeman received the King's Commendation for Courage.
Sergeant Tim Ansell fought with 27-year-old Jacob Brown following he pressed a blade to the neck of his partner Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their partner, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a driver after a vehicle incident in Whalley Range in mid-2023.
Brown attacked with blade both Sergeant Ansell and Sgt Foster before PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a electric weapon.
"Policeman knifed," the constable was heard to say over his communication device.
Bodyworn and dashcam footage shared by the force depicted Brown, that was clothed in dark clothing with a head covered, rush to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a blade extended.
He struck the officer who lost balance and fell to the ground, before Sgt Ansell intervened and attempted to subdue him to the floor even though being repeatedly struck with the blade.
PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and sought a open target, ending the fight to an conclusion.
Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "I need assistance on my throat now, I've been stabbed in the neck."
Sergeant Ansell suffered two open wounds to his neck and further wounds to his limbs and torso, while Sgt Foster received slash wounds.
Authorities stated Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to control his fellow officer's hemorrhaging prior to emergency responders came.
The latest award follows after the trio of policemen won organizational Bravery Awards in October 2023 and the police federation award from the area union branch in early 2024.
They additionally received a North West Valor Recognition in mid-2024.
"The responses of all three officers ultimately saved themselves and ensured no civilians endured any harm."
Brown was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in spring 2024, according to the department.
