India Overcome Bug Invasion to Sail to Frosty Victory Over Pakistan in Women’s Cricket World Cup

Pace bowler Kranti Goud and spin specialist Deepti Sharma took three wickets each as India defeated Pakistan by 88 runs in their World Cup encounter, which began like recent ones between the countries men’s teams with no handshake from the captains and later included a disputed run-out of a Pakistan opener.

India’s captain, Kaur, declined to shake hands with Pakistan’s Fatima Sana during the toss and the teams departed without greeting each other after the contest amidst diplomatic strains between the two south Asian neighbours.

The captains at the recent men’s Asia Cup in the UAE similarly avoided handshakes at matches between India and Pakistan. India has accused their neighbor of having involvement in tourist assaults that claimed many lives.

Match Summary

India lost the toss, they were all out for 247 in 50 overs. The opening pair, Pratika Rawal and star player Mandhana, put on 48 runs for the opening stand before the bowler had her leg before wicket for a 32-ball 23. She made 31 before she was bowled by the left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal. The captain scored 19 runs before she was caught behind off Baig.

Harleen Deol top-scored for the team with 46 and Ghosh made a quick-fire 35 not out to boost their team to a competitive total.

Jemimah Rodrigues (32), Deepti (25) and Rana (20) all made useful runs, while Diana took 4/69 for Pakistan and Iqbal and Sana had two wickets apiece. The match was stopped for 15 minutes because insects were bothering the players.

Pakistan’s Innings

The Pakistani team were bowled out for 159 in 43 overs. Sole fifty of the match in Colombo came from Amin, who made 81 runs.

The opening wicket was taken in a controversial fashion when the opener Ali was given out run out. She had grounded her bat after returning to her crease, having moved forward to play a shot. The bat was then lifted momentarily when an India throw hit the stumps. The captain protested to the fourth umpire that the batter was not running but the ruling was upheld.

Her 106-ball innings included a maximum and nine fours. Goud took 3/20 and the spinner returned three for 45.
