One-time NFL Star Antonio Brown Files Innocent Plea in Attempted Murder Case

One-time NFL star Antonio Brown is traveling to Miami to address an attempted murder allegation stemming from a gunfire that took place in May, with his counsel entering a not guilty declaration on his behalf.

Detention logs in Essex, New Jersey, indicate that Brown was discharged on Tuesday morning for his relocation to Florida. Brown, among the most famous athletes in the National Football League, had forgone transfer to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was held after being arrested in Dubai.

Brown’s lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, said in an email that he has already lodged a formal not guilty response to the attempted murder allegation. Brown could be in a Miami courtroom as soon as Wednesday morning for a bond hearing, Eiglarsh said.

Based on his detention order, Brown is accused of grabbing a firearm from a protection staffer after a star boxing bout in May and firing a couple of bullets at a individual he had confronted with before. The reported target, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told police that one of the bullets touched his throat.

Eiglarsh stated that Brown was simply safeguarding himself from Nantambu.

“The steps he was forced to take were exclusively in defense against the alleged person’s violent conduct. Brown was assaulted that evening and responded within his legal entitlement to protect himself,” Eiglarsh stated.

Brown was not immediately apprehended because at first police did not consider Nantambu as a target. It wasn’t until afterward in May that Nantambu provided a detailed statement about the incident to authorities and identified Brown as the perpetrator, the document says.

Based on his social media content, Brown had been residing in Dubai for multiple weeks. In a message after the confrontation, Brown claimed he was defending himself because he was “attacked by numerous persons who attempted to steal my jewelry and inflict bodily injury to me.”

A second-degree attempted murder allegation in Florida bears a highest 15-year jail term and up to a $10,000 fee in the case of a conviction.

Brown has dealt with numerous legal challenges over the time. He before had been accused of physical attack of a vehicle driver, various family violence charges, neglect to pay child support and additional events.

During a 2021 game with the Buccaneers against the opponents, Brown took off his shirt, shoulder pads and gloves and exited the stadium, causing his release by the franchise and practically concluding his NFL tenure.

Brown, who completed a dozen years in the league, was an top-tier player who passed the bulk of his career with Pittsburgh. For his career, Brown had nine hundred twenty-eight receptions for over 12,291 distance, the twenty-eighth most of record. He was a multiple-time all-star choice.
