Tests Indicate Navalny Had Been Poisoned in Jail, His Wife States

The widow of the deceased political activist Navalny has stated that his death resulted due to toxic exposure while imprisoned in a remote prison in last year.

Via social media footage published publicly, Yulia Navalnaya explained that analysis of smuggled biological samples conducted by labs in multiple nations indicated her husband had been assassinated.

She did not provide details regarding the toxic agent suspected, the evidence or the testing – but called on the two laboratories to publish their results.

Navalny – an anti-graft figure and Russia’s most vocal political adversary – succumbed abruptly in jail on the 16th of February at the 47.

Prior Incident

Two years prior, a nerve agent was used against him with a military-grade toxin and came close to death. After returning to his homeland, he was arrested at the airport.

At the time of his demise, he remained in incarceration for multiple years on fabricated allegations and had just been moved to a prison camp in an extreme climate zone.

Navalny’s supporters and team members at his FBK have always maintained the Russian government had a hand in his death.

Secret Samples

His widow explained that following his passing, his associates were able to secretly move biological samples abroad and that independent facilities in distinct states had found he had been subjected to a lethal agent.

The widow declined to disclose the names of the institutions – but she implied that they were not disclosing the data due to geopolitical reasons.

“They are reluctant damning evidence to come to light at the wrong time,” Navalnaya stated.

She further indicated that she would encounter resistance in seeking answers about her husband’s death: Being the widow, naturally, but there is no legal proceeding, there are no formal justification to hand documents to you.’”

“Yet I possess reasons. Not procedural, but moral grounds.”

His widow emphasized that he was her partner, friend and closest person – and an emblem of optimism for a better future for this land”.

“I am aware he was a symbol to you too,” she said referencing pictures of his public burial which brought multitudes despite threats from the officials avoid participation.

“I will not be silent. I declare that Vladimir Putin is responsible of causing the death of my husband, Navalny... I implore the institutions which conducted studies to make the results public.”

On Wednesday, Presidential press secretary Peskov commented he was not informed of Navalnaya’s statements.

Final Days

Via the footage released on this week, she also described the last days of her husband according to what she said was statements by personnel at the penal colony, which has not been verified.

Per her account, on the day he died, Navalny was allowed into for a walk but felt ill. After being returned to his cell “he reclined on the ground, curled up, and started groaning... then he started vomiting”.

“His body shook uncontrollably... the correctional officers observed his suffering through the window of the cell opening,” his widow stated, citing the claimed accounts.

An ambulance was not summoned until over half an hour after Navalny became ill, his spouse said, and he died shortly after. Detention center administrators later told his Lyudmila that her son had experienced “sudden death syndrome”. Afterward, government inquiries said the death had been caused by a health issue and arrythmia.

His colleagues have shared previously unseen images on the internet allegedly illustrating his confinement space on the final day and the tiny outdoor space where he was granted access.

Political Context

The Russian president, who deliberately abstained from referencing the activist while he was still active, briefly referred to him weeks following by remarking that a death was “always a sad event”.

Putin also said he had agreed to a arranged exchange deal between the dissident and “some people” held in overseas custody, on the requirement that he did not come home to Russia.

“But such is life. One can do to be done about it,” the president said.

Virtually no possibility the Russian government will offer more responses on Navalny’s death.

Public admiration and digital influence long concerned the Kremlin, while prominent leaders were provoked by his probes into high-profile official misconduct.

Following his passing the country lost the remaining towering dissident voice who opposed the current leadership.

A significant number of his allies have been imprisoned or have left Russia. Navalnaya herself is subject to detention, and they are in exile.

Government suppression on activism increased additionally after the armed aggression of the sovereign state in early 2022, and draconian legislation leading to widespread detentions have suppressed criticism.

In both life and death the activist managed to draw out large gatherings onto the public squares. Countless individuals gathered for his funeral in Moscow in last year despite real apprehensions of a official retaliation.

No large dissent events have taken place in Russia afterward.
